I have to write an essay for a summer internship application and one of the issues I’m supposed to address is what is a major health problem in Phoenix, Arizona (where I live) and how I would deal with it. All I need to know is a major health issue, not the actual answer to the question. Thanks for your time.

   Air quality. Childhood asthma is a particular problem.

   Also Valley Fever and skin cancer. AZ ranks #1 and 2 in these issues.

   If you are speaking to Phoenix only. Look into the #’s of uninsured - I suspect that it is higher than average - reducing the health overall, impacting our ER’s, and resulting in high costs.

   I would check out the web sites for the state health department and local hospitals for information and inspiration.
